Looking at the War of 93 through A Steamship: Mersin Steamship Case and the Ottoman War Prisoners in Russia

Abstract
The Ottoman-Russian War of 1877-78 has been studied in many angles. However, maritime logistics that affected the war was not adequately explored. In this regard, this study addresses the abduction story of the Mersin steamship which was containing important war plans and a large number of injured Ottoman soldier. This incident, which influenced the war, took place as an important event in Russian historiography as well as in the drawings of famous Russian painters. Although the Black Sea was under blockade by the Ottoman ships during the war, the seizure of the Mersin steamship, without encountering any obstacles, led to heated discussions in the Ottoman Parliament. In this respect, the story of the abduction of an Ottoman steamship, which was seized in the wake of a complex network of relations, was tried to be dealt with both by Ottoman and Russian sources.
Özet
1877-78 Osmanlı-Rus Harbi birçok yönüyle incelenmiştir. Fakat savaşın seyrine etki edendeniz lojistiği kısmı yeterince irdelenmemiştir. Çalışmamız bu noktada Rus vapurları tarafındankaçırılan, içerisinde önemli savaş planlarının ve çok sayıda yaralı Osmanlı askerinin taşındığıMersin Vapurunun kaçırılış hikâyesini ele almaktadır. Zira Rus tarih yazımında önemli bir hadiseolarak yer alan bu olay savaşın seyrine etki etmiş ve ünlü Rus ressamlarının çizimlerinde yeralmıştır. Bunların yanı sıra savaş süresince Karadeniz sahilleri Osmanlı gemilerince kısmen ablukaaltında olmasına rağmen hiçbir engellemeyle karşılaşmadan Mersin Vapurunun ele geçiripgötürülmesi Osmanlı Mebusan Meclisi’nde de hararetli tartışmaların yaşanmasına neden olmuştur.Bu yönüyle karmaşık ilişkiler ağı neticesinde ele geçirilen bir Osmanlı vapurunun kaçırılışhikâyesi hem Osmanlı hem de Rus kaynakları kullanılarak ele alınmaya çalışılmıştır.
