Induction of parturition by misoprostol in ewes

Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the efficacy of misoprostol application on the induction of parturition in ewes. As material, a total of 20 ewes which were Karagül and Morkaraman breeds were used. The ewes were randomly divided into four groups. Ewes in group 1 received only 16 mg dexamethasone once intramuscularly. Ewes in group 2 received 400 u,g misoprostol orally for four times in 2 hours intervals (a total of 1600 ug). Ewes in group 3 received 800 p,g misoprostol vaginally for two times in 8 hours intervals (a total of 1600 (ig). Drug applications were 'Started on the 142' nd day of pregnancy. Ewes in group 4 were used as control. Blood samples were collected daily just after the drug application until parturition for to determine progesterone concentrations. Bu çalışmada koyunlarda misoprostol uygulamalarının doğumu uyarmadaki etkinliğinin araştırılması amaçlandı. Materyal olarak, Karagül ve Morkaraman ırkı toplam 20 adet koyun kullanıldı. Koyunlar 4 gruba ayrıldı. Gebeliğin 142. günüden itibaren 1. gruptakilere 16 mg i.m. dexametazon, 2. gruptakilere her iki saatte bir 400 ug olmak üzere toplam 1600 u.g oral misoprostol ve 3. gruptakilere 8 saat arayla 800 jig olarak toplam 1600 u.g misoprostol vaginal yoldan serviks ağzına uygulandı. Dördüncü gruptaki koyunlar kontrol olarak ayrıldı. Uygulama başlangıcında ve doğuma kadar her 24 saatte bir, progesteron değerlerini izlemek için, kan örnekleri alındı. Ayrıca kullanılan koyunlarda doğuma kadar geçen süreler saat olarak kaydedildi. Uygulama-doğum arası süreler kontrol'grubunda 183.4 saat bulunurken, deksametazon grubunda 44.4 saat, oral misoprostol grubunda 143.6 saat ve vaginal misoprostol grubunda 69.2 saat olarak elde edildi.
