Evisceration with scleral bisection and porous polyethylene sphere implantation

Abstract

Evisceration With Scleral Bisection and Porous Polyethylene Sphere Implantation Objective: To evaluate the clinical outcomes of evisceration with scleral bisection and porous polyethylene implantation. Materials and Methods: The charts of 11 patients who had evisceration with scleral bisection and porous polyethylene sphere (Medpor, Porex Surgical Inc., Atlanta, USA) implantation at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital Eye Clinic 2, from December 2002 to April 2004 were retrospectively evaluated. The age and sex of the patient, preoperative diagnosis, porous polyethylene implant sizes, and complications were reviewed. Results: An 18 mm implant was used in 7 eyes (63.6%) and a 20-mm implant was used in 4 (36.4%) eyes. Postoperatively, one patient had chemosis that resolved in 15 days. There was no other complication including conjunctival erosion, implant exposure, implant migration, enophthalmos, infection or evidence of sympathetic ophthalmia during the follow-up period. Conclusion: Evisceration with scleral bisection and porous polyethylene implantation is a safe and easy procedure that allows the insertion of large implants.

Amaç: Sklera biseksiyonu ve poröz polietilen sfer implantasyonuyla eviserasyon cerrahisinin sonuçlarını değerlendirmek. Gereç ve Yöntem: Aralık 2002-Nisan 2004 tarihleri arasında Haydarpaşa Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi 2. Göz Kliniği'nde skleral biseksiyon tekniği ve poröz polietilen sfer (Medpor, Porex Surgical Inc., Atlanta, ABD) impantasyonuyla eviserasyon cerrahisi uygulanan 11 hastanın dosyaları retrospektif olarak incelendi. Hastaların yaşı ve cinsiyeti, operasyon öncesi tanı, poröz polietilen implant büyüklüğü ve komplikasyonlar değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Yedi gözde (%63.6) 18 mm implant ve 4 gözde (%36.4) 20 mm implant kullanıldı. Postoperatuar dönemde 1 hastada 15 günde çekilen kemozis görüldü. Takip süresince, sütür açılması, konjunktiva erozyonu, implant açıkta kalması, implant göçü, enoftalmus, infeksiyon veya sempatik oftalmi bulgusu izlenmedi. Tartışma: Skleral biseksiyon ve poröz polietilen implantasyonu; büyük implantların kullanımına imkân veren güvenli ve basit bir işlemdir.
