Abstract

Serum Zinc Levels in the Children with Asthma. Purpose: The investigation of serum zinc levels in the children with asthma. Materials and Method:50 children having follow up asthma diagnosis at the age of 24 and 166 months and applying for Asthma Allergy Polyclinic of Bakırköy Dr Sadi. Konuk Training and Research Hospital, and 50 he-alty children at the ages of 12 and 168 months were included in this study between the dates March 2005 and April 2005.Hunger-blood samples were taken from the cases for serum zinc levels, and the values of age gender and Ig E were investigated.The grading of Asthma was carried out according to the GINA classification, and the treatment times were recorded.Serum zinc levels were measured by means of calorimetric method. Findings: 23 of the children in study group were male (%46), and 27 of the children were female(%54).Mean age was 87.64_+32.91 months.%14 of the cases had grade 1 asthma , and %44 of the cases had grade 2 asthma , and %34.4 of the cases had grade 3 asthma and %8.4 of them had grade 4 asthma.The duration of illness was between 1 and 84 months , and mean duration was 21.28 month.27 of 50 healthy children were male (%54) and 23 of them were female (%46).The mean age was 65.58_+53.32 months.Mean of serum-zinc concentration of the children with asthma was 117.9 microgram/dl , whereas that of healthy children was 110.76 microgram/dl.There was no statistically significant distinction between values.(P>0.05).There was no correlation in study group between zinc levels and gender, grade of asthma and duration of asthma(P>0.05).lt was found out that as the children with asthma get older, their zinc levels reduce. Amaç: Astımlı çocuklarda serum çinko düzeylerinin incelenmesi.Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmamıza Mart 2005 ve Nisan 2005 tarihleri arasında Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Astım Alerji Polikliniğine başvuran, yaşları 24 ile 168 ay arasında değişen, takipli 50 astım tanılı çocuk ve yaşları 12 ile 168 ay arasında değişen 50 sağlam çocuk alındı. Olgulardan serum çinko düzeyi için açlık kan örneği alındı ve cinsiyet, yaş, IgE değerleri sorgulandı. Astım dereceleri GINA sınıflamasına göre yapıldı, tedavi süreleri kaydedildi. Serum çinko düzeyleri; kalori metrik yöntem ile ölçüldü. Bulgular: Çalışma grubundaki çocukların 23'ü erkek (%46), 27'si kız (%54) idi. Yaş ortalaması 87,64 ± 32,91 ay olarak belirlendi. % 14'ü 1, %44'ü 2, %34'ü 3, %8'i 4. derece astımlı idi. Hastalığın süresi 1 - 84 ay arasında idi ve ortalama 21,28 ay olarak bulundu.
