If sociology is what sociologists do

Abstract

The aim of this article is to present sociological studies in Turkey from the points of the preferences of Turkish sociologists and from the points of the dimensions of the sociology itself. In this article sociology is treated as a science having micro, mezzo or macro dimensions while sociologists are seen as policy-oriented or theory-oriented researchers. The sociological studies in Turkey are evaluated in the light of the above parameters. Sociologists‟ conceptionalizations of their units of analyses are also important in this context since it would lead them to distinguish concepts as socius, polity, nation, corporate body and society.

Özet

Makalenin amacı Türkiye‟deki sosyoloji çalışmalarını hem sosyologlarımızın sosyoloji yapma tarzları hem de sosyolojinin bir bilim dalı olarak boyutları üzerinden incelemektir. Makalede sosyoloji makro, mezzo ve mikro boyutlara sahip bir bilim dalı sosyolog ise kavram-kuram üretimine veya politika üretimine yönelen bir araştırmacı olarak ele alınmakta, Türkiye‟deki sosyoloji çalışmaları bu parametrelerin sunduğu imkânlar ışığında değerlendirilmektedir. Sosyologların analiz birimlerini kavramsallaştırmaları da bu bağlamda önemlidir; zira böylece socius, polity, millet, ulus ve toplum arasındaki farklar dikkate alınacaktır.
