Abstract

The City of Vidin located on the banks of Danube was one of the most important border cities of the Ottoman Empire in the 17th and 18th centuries. After being conquered by the Ottomans, the city was developed ad used as a strategic point for the Ottoman military campaigns aga inst Habsburg and Hungary. In our study, we have tried to deal with the logistic and strategic importance of Vidin for the Ottoman campaigns against Venice in 1716/1717 and Habsburg. The main source applied and used in this study is Şer’iye registers available at Sofa National Library, numbered 305, H. 1127-1134/dated M. 1715-1722. The reference that we have used in our study does not only give information about social, economic events of the period but also give much more valuable information about the logistics activities of the Ottoman army.
