The Presidency of Religious Affairs and Body Politic in Turkey

Abstract

This article deals with the role of the Presidency of Religious Affairs (PRA) in the body politics. A n indepth sociological study is made by focusing on the January-September 2015 period the official website of the PRA (http://www.diyanet.gov.tr). This website not only represents the PRA’s public and institutional face. But it also introduces and transfers religious information concerning the body. This article makes use of the traditional sources which regulate bodily life in the website of the PRA. It examines the information in the cells of Hadith, Friday Khutbas, Religious Knowledge, Hajj and Umrah Guide, Religious Questions and Fatwa. In the light of the descriptions and analysis made within this article. It can be said that the PRA carries out two basic functions in establishing the basis of body politics. The first one is, through these traditional sources PRA introduces the citizens the responsibilities and rights Islam offers for bodily life. It teaches the aspects that Muslims must avoid and be cautious in their bodily life and bodily encounters with others. The other is to point out the importance of religious body pedagogics in the maintenance of bodily life in relation to social and technological changes

Bu makale, Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı'nın (DİB) beden politikasındaki rolünü ele almaktadır. Diyanetin resmî web sitesinde (http:// www.diyanet.gov.tr.), 2015 yılının Ocak-Eylül dönemine odaklanarak sosyolojik bir kazı yapmaktadır. Bu websitesi, sadece Diyanetin kamusal ve kurumsal yüzünü temsil etmemektedir. Aynı zamanda, dinî beden bilgisinin tanıtıldığı ve aktarıldığı da bir sitedir. Bu makale, Diyanetin websitesinde bedensel hayatı tanzim eden geleneksel kaynaklara yönelmektedir. Hadis-i Şerif, Hutbeler, Dinî Bilgiler, Dinî Sorular ve Fetvalar hücrelerinde yer alan bilgilere bakmaktadır. Bu makalenin sınırları çerçevesinde yapılan betimlemeler ve tahliller ışığında denilebilir ki, Diyanet beden politikasını üretirken iki temel işlevi yerine getirmektedir. Bunlardan ilki, Diyanet websitesindeki bu geleneksel kaynaklarla yurttaşlara, İslam dininin bedensel hayat için sunduğu sorumluluk ve hakları tebliğ etmektedir. Müslümanlara bedensel hayatta ve başkaları ile olan bedensel karşılaşmalarında gözetmesi ve sakınması gereken hususları aşılamaktadır. Diğeri ise toplumsal ve teknolojik değişmelere bağlı olarak, bedensel hayatın sürdürülmesinde dinî beden terbiyesinin önemine işaret etmektedir
