A study to determine dental fear of last year medical students at a medical school

Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine some thoughts about dental fear of last vear medical students at a medical faculty Two hundred and fifty one last year medical students out of 287 (87.5%) participated in this, cross-sectional study. Majority of the participants were male (55.8%) and 44.2% of them were female. Girls visited their dentists for dental examination more than boys did. 75.7% of the students visited a dentist only if they had a dental complaint. 15.3% of the participants had a negative experience about dental examination. Students who had a dentist relatiue visited dentist more than the ones without dentist relatives. Empathy capacity of dentists might have auoided the dental fear of the patients.
Özet
Bu çalışmanın amacı tip fakültesi Dönem VI öğrencilerinin diş muayenesi korkusuyla ilgili görüşlerini ve bazı sosyodemografik özelliklerini saptamaktır. Kesitsel tipte olan bu çalışmaya 287 son sınıf tıp fakültesi öğrencisinin 251'i katılmıştır (Katılma boyutu: % 87.5). Öğrencilerin % 55.8'ı erkek, % 44.2'si kadındır. Kız öğrenciler, diş muayenesine erkeklerden daha düzenli gitmektedirler. Öğrencilerinin % 75.7'si sadece şikayeti olduğunda diş hekimine gittiklerini ifade etmişlerdir. Grubun % 15.3'nün diş muayenesi ile ilgili olumsuz bir deneyimi bulunmaktadır. Diş hekimi yakını olan öğrencilerin daha düzenli diş muayenesine gittikleri bulunmuştur. Diş hekimlerinin hastalara diş muayeneleri sırasında gerekli empati ve özeni göstermeleri hastalarda bu korkunun oluşmasını önleyebilir.
