The treatment of odontogenic infections with thiamphenicol

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the effectiveness of thiamphenicoî in odontogenic infections. Treatments were carried out on 20 patient who attended the oral surgery clinic with a history of odontogenic infection as confirmed by thorough clinical and microbiological investigations. Aerobe and anaerobic cultures were obtained and the effective microorganisms were cultivated from pus samples of abscess contents from patients who had not previously taken antibiotics. Also, antibiograms were been carried out for each sample. in all patients, the surgical drainage was performed and antibacterial treatment was accomplished by the injectable and oral forms of thiamphenico while the reasoning teeth were extracted.The results of this study showed that thiamphenicol was an effective antibacteial agent in the therapeutic treatment of odontogenic infections.

Özet

Tiamfenikolun odontojenik enfeksiyonlarda etkinliğini belirlemeyi amaçlayan çalışmamız Hacettepe Üniversitesi Dişhekimliği Fakültesi Ağız-Diş-Çene Hastalıkları ve Cerrahisi Anabilimdalı odontojen kökenli enfeksiyon ile başvuran 20 hasta üzerinde klinik ve mikrobiyolojik inceleme yapılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Daha önce antibiyotik kullanmamış hastalardan alınan pü örnekleri, aerob ve anaerob ortamlar hazırlanarak etken mikroorganizma tespit edilmiş ve her örnek için antibiogram çalışması yapılmıştır. Enfeksiyonun şiddetine göre ayarlanan tiamfenikol uygulaması sonrası pü drenajı ve etken dişin eliminasyonu gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmamızın sonuçlarına göre tiamfenikolun odontojen enfeksiyonlarda etkinliği yeterli bulunmuştur.
