Distraction osteogenesis: New bone formation, history and biologic principles: Part 1

Abstract
Distraction osteogenesis is the biologic process of new bone formation between bone segments gradually separated by incremental traction. The aim of this review article is to evaluate the techniques, specific procedures and biologic events concerning this therapeutic approach. The historical development beginning from the early forms of bone manipulation and early distraction techniques are the mentioned subjects. In addition, advantages of distraction treatment, patient consistency, possible complications and avoidance from them, success criteria and future prospects are the other topics of this article.
Özet
Distraksiyon osteogenez, aşamalı traksiyon tekniği ile birbirinden dereceli olarak ayrılan kemik segmentleri arasında meydana gelen yeni kemik formasyonuna ait biyolojik bir olaydır. Mevcut derleme yazısında, tıpta birçok kullanım endikasyonuna sahip bu tedavinin, uygulanan teknikler, spesifik prosedürler ve meydana gelen biyolojik olaylar yönünden değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Ayrıca kemik manipülasyonunun erken formlarından başlayarak erken döneme ait distraksiyon tekniklerini içeren tarihsel gelişimden de bahsedilmektedir. Distraksiyon osteogenezin avantajları ve hasta uyumunun yanı sıra oluşabilecek komplikasyonlar, bu komplikasyonlardan korunma yolları, distraksiyon tedavisinde başarıya ulaşabilme kriterleri ve geleceğe ilişkin yorumlar da bu yazının konusunu oluşturmaktadır.
