The effect of corrosion products of metal-based endodontic post on gingiva

Abstract
It is well known that most of the materials used in dentistry are susceptible to corrosion. The soft tissue color change caused by the corrosion products, which is often observed at the margins of the fixed prosthetic restorations, was observed in this case after a post-core placement. It was seen that the corrosion products of metal post which was placed 13 years ago to central incizor of 54 years old man refered to our clinic and the color change at the vestibular gingiva resulted in the problems for the patient both functionally and esthetically. In this case report, the corrosion susceptibility of the metals in oral environment, the importance of the negative effects of the corrosion and alternative treatment options are presented.
Özet
Diş hekimliğinde kullanılan birçok metalin korozyona yatkınlığı bilinmektedir. Çoğu zaman sabit protetik restorasyonların marjinlerinde izlenen korozyon ürünlerine bağlı yumuşak dokudaki renk değişikliği bu olguda bir post-kor uygulaması sonrası gözlenmiştir. Kliniğimize başvuran 54 yaşındaki erkek hastanın üst santral dişine 13 yıl önce yerleştirilmiş olan metal postun korozyon ürünlerinin ve vestibüldeki diş etinde meydana getirdiği yaygın renk değişikliğinin hem fonksiyon hem de estetik açıdan problem oluşturduğu görülmüştür. Bu olgu sunumunda, metallerin ağız ortamında korozyona yatkınlıkları, korozyon sonucu oluşan olumsuzlukların önemi ve alternatif tedavi seçenekleri sunulmaktadır.
