Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of different light-curing devices on microleakage at margins of enamel and dentin in class II slot preparetions restored using total- and self-etched adhesives. Material and Methods: Ninety extracted, caries-free human molar teeth was used in this study. Class II slot cavities were prepared at the mesial and distal surfaces. Half of the preparations had the gingival margin in enamel and half in dentin. The teeth were randomly divided in to 18 groups each consisting of 5 teeth (10 cavities) according to light-curing methods [ Halojen (HILUX 350), LED ( Elipar Freelight II), PAC ( Power PAG)], gingival margin localization of preparation (enamel, dentin) and adhesive systems used [Adper Single-Bond 2, 3M ESPE), ( Adper Prompt L-Pop,3M ESPE), ( Claerfil SE-Bond, Kuraray)]. The composite resin was placed incrementally and polymerized by using different kind of light-curing units. Following this procedure, restoration the teeth were incubated at 37oC in 3 % methylene blue for 24 hours. Following removal from solution, the teeth were sectioned mesio-distally, then microleakage at the margins of enamel and dentin were evaluated using a stereomicroscope. Kruskal-Wallis test, Dunn’s Method and Mann Whitney U test were used for statistical evaluations. Results: Microleakage was statistically greater in PAC cured and Prompt L-Pop applied group than other lights-cured groups both in enamel and dentin (p0.05). Conclusion: Class II slot restorations that restorated with one step self-etch adhesive and composite resin then polymerized with rapid curing techniques showed the highest microleakage at both enamel and dentin margins.
