Apexification with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA): A report of two cases

Abstract

The purpose of this case report is to describe two different approaches for the use of Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) in apexification of two immature permanent incisors. In the first case, MTA mixture was applied with orthograde delivery method, whereas retrograde placement approach was utilized in the second case. 2-year radiographic follow-ups revealed healing of the periradicular tissues and new hard tissue formation in the periapical area of the affected teeth. Therefore, it is concluded that apexification with MTA is a strong alternative to conventional apexification technique, since it has favorable properties such as eliminating the lengthy apexification procedure, promoting periapical healing, creating a good seal and biocompability.

Bu olgu sunumunun amacı Mineral Trioksit Agregatı (MTA)’nın kök gelişimi tamamlanmamış 2 daimi kesici dişin apeksifikasyonunda kullanımı sırasında tercih edilen iki farklı yaklaşımı aktarmaktır. Birinci olguda MTA karışımı ortograt yöntemle uygulanırken ikinci olguda retrograt uygulama yaklaşımı tercih edilmiştir. 2 yıllık radyografik takipler periradiküler dokuların iyileştiğini ve etkilenen dişlerin periapikal alanlarında yeni sert doku oluştuğunu ortaya koymuştur. Uzun süren apeksifikasyon işlemini elimine etmesi, periapikal iyileşmeyi teşvik etmesi, iyi bir örtücülük sağlaması ve biyouyumluluğu gibi avantajları nedeniyle MTA ile apeksifikasyonun geleneksel apeksifikasyon yöntemine güçlü bir alternatif olabileceği sonucuna varılmıştır.
