Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the oneyear clinical performance of cervical restorations using etch-and-rinse and self-etch adhesive systems. Subject and methods: Twenty-four patients with at least 2 pairs of cervical lesions participated in this study. A total of 123 cervical lesions were restored (62 with a two-step etch-and-rinse adhesive, Solobond M; 61 with a one-step self-etch adhesive, Futura Bond NR). A nanohybrid composite, Grandio was used as a restorative material for both adhesive systems. All restorations were placed by one dentist. The restorations were clinically evaluated by two examiners at baseline, 6, and 12 months using modified USPHS criteria. The data were statistically analyzed using the Chi-square test. Results: All patients attended the 12-month recall and all restorations were evaluated. At 6 months, the retention rate for etch-and-rinse adhesive, Solobond M was 82.3% and 75.4% for self-etch adhesive, Futura Bond NR. The retention rates at 12 months were 94,1% for Solobond M and 82.6% for Futura Bond NR. There were no statistically significant differences in retention rates among the adhesive systems after 6 or 12 months (p>0,05). For marginal discoloration, marginal adaptation and color match, no statistically significant differences were found between adhesive systems (p>0.05). No secondary caries was detected in association with any restorations and no postoperative sensitivity was observed. Conclusion: No difference was observed between the clinical performance of the restorations that were placed using etch-and-rinse and self-etch adhesive.
