Abstract

Lack of space due to the premature loss of decidous teeth with subsequent partial closure of area they occupied is a common factor in the etiology of partially or completely impacted teeth. Besides causing prothetic and ortodontic problems, impacted teeth may also at times initiate a dentige-rous cyst. Where the presence of an impacted tooth, the removal of one or two teeth frequently seems to make the problem of correction much easier. But, if one or two roots of an adjacent tooth become untrea-table, hemisection can be an alternative solution to allow eruption of the impacted tooth, while maintai¬ning the half of the infected tooth. In this article, case reports of two young girls whose infected lower first molars were hemisected and impacted second premolars were erupted by ortho¬dontic therapy, are presented.
