Abstract

Cengiz Bektaş argues that awareness of cultural heritage constitutes of knowing what has been done before us; criticizing it, evaluating it, discussing it with his contemporaries, predicting the future, not being stuck in the past, pulling it forward for a better, brighter way and ensuring that our behavior is compatible with this information. Although Bektaş's architecture is associated with Anatolia, for the culture of the world, he points out the concept of "Being Mediterranean" as a melting pot of humanity and culture that has left its mark from architecture to literature. Emphasizing the contribution of the Mediterranean to humanity in thought, art and culture; he states that the Mediterranean people are the "masters of living". The narrative architecture of Bektaş, who based his architectural philosophy on learning from the local knowledge and articulation to the tradition, was examined in this study through the Olbia Social Center, which was awarded with the Aga Khan Award and designed for Akdeniz University. In the study, an evaluation focusing on the construction technique used by Bektaş in Olbia is evaluated and the original qualities of this technique, as well as its importance in terms of social, cultural, aesthetic and architectural history is presented
