An Analysis of Spatial Distribution of the Turkish Exports: Lorrenz Curve Approach

Türkiye'nin İhracatının Mekansal Yayılımının Analizi: Lorenz Eğrisi Yaklaşımı

Abstract

In this paper, the provincial level spatial distribution of the Turkey's exports has been analyzed, by using the Lorenz curve and Gini coefficient approaches. The analyses covers 1990-2002 period and it has shown that some improvements on the elimination of the regional disparities in terms of the provincial exports has been achieved and expected to continue to improve in the near future. Then, to judge against a developed economy, the findings have been compared with the United States' relevant figures. The comparisons have shown that the Turkish economy is well behind the American economy in terms of export related spatial disparities. Finally, the significance of the economic policies that have been carried out by the Turkish government authorities towards the elimination of regional disparities has been underlined

Özet

Bu çalışmada, Türkiye'nin ihracatının iller itibariyle mekansal dağılımı incelenmekte ve yayılımının dengeli olup olmadığı Lorenz eğrisi ve Gini katsayıları yardımıyla analiz edilmektedir. Yapılan analizlerden 1990-2002 dönemi içerisinde bölgesel dengesizliklerde ihracat açısından belli bir iyileşme olduğu saptanmış ve bu iyileşmenin devam edeceği tahmin edilmiştir. Daha sonra, elde edilen bulgular, gelişmiş bir ülkeyle kıyaslama yapmak amacı çerçevesinde Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nin ilgili değerleri kullanılmıştır. Yapılan karşılaştırma, Türkiye'nin ihracatla ilgili mekânsal eşitsizlik açışından ABD nin oldukça gerisinde olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Ayrıca çalışmada, Türkiye'de bölgesel dengesizlikleri gidermeye yönelik olarak ilgili kamu kuruluşlarınca yapılan ekonomi politikalarından kısaca söz edilmekte ve önemi vurgulanmaktadır.
