A Model of the Teaching of Geographical Information Systems

Abstract
As the teachers in this study have discovered, designing effective GIS- based learning opportunies for students requires a new approach to structuring the curiculum, to teaching, and to assessing student learning. The approach used most succesfully to each with GIS is problem based learning (PBL). In PBL, teachers and students integrate concepts and skills from one or more diciplines to investigate a problem. In this study we outline a form of PBL customized for use with GIS, called PBL-GIS, and provide concrete strategies to organize PBL-GIS activities.
Özet
Bu çalışmadaki öğretmenlerinde keşfettiği gibi öğrenciler için etkin Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri (CBS)’ne dayalı öğrenim fırsatları programı yapılandırmak, öğretim ve öğrencilerin öğrenmelerini değerlendirmek için yeni bir yaklaşım gerekmektedir. CBS ile en başarılı kullanılabilecek yaklaşım Probleme Dayalı Öğrenme (PDÖ)’dir. PDÖ’de öğretmenler ve öğrenciler bir problemi incelemek için bir ya da daha fazla disiplinle ilgili kavram ve becerileri birleştirmektedir. Bu çalışmada, PDÖ-CBS adı verilen, CBS ile kullanmak üzere PDÖ’nün değiştirilmiş bir formu ana hatlarıyla verilmeye çalışılmıştır. Ayrıca PDÖ-CBS aktivitelerini organize etmek için somut stratejiler sunulmaktadır.
