Abstract

Kastamonu is one of the towns in Turkey where you could find most of the door-rings and door-knockers. 126 of a total of 279 doors have door-rings. Most of them are made of the “dokum” technique, though some are made of iron. They vary in diameter of between 3-10 cm. The decorative parts are the door-discs, which are of two types. In addition to the door-rings, the doors have been identified to have 13 different door-knockers. These are all made of the “mouled technique except for the 4th and the 11th type. Some have European roots in terms of the type, but some has been produced in Turkey by way of importing their mouled. Almost half of the knockers are of the 1st type. The fact that there is only one example of the 6th type leads to the conclusion that the 1st type is the most common in Kastamonu.
