Abstract
Sivil society is a concept that has existed from Ancient Times to the present day. However in terms of meaning, the concept has changed quite a lot. Alexis De Tocqueville, who make the civil society closer to the meaning of today, is a French philosopher of the nineteenth century. At a time of transition from aristocracy to democracy, according to Tocqueville to process democracy properly constitutional right to association is unalienable. Furthermore, mechanism to correct the shortcomings of democracy is sivil society.
Özet
Sivil toplum, antik çağdan günümüze dek var olmuş bir kavramdır. Fakat anlam bakımından oldukça fazla değişikliğe uğramıştır. Sivil toplumu günümüzdeki anlamına yakınlaştıran Alexis De Tocqueville, 19. yüzyılda yaşamış Fransız bir düşünürdür. Aristokrasiden demokrasiye geçiş sürecinin yaşandığı bir devirde Tocquevillee göre demokrasinin doğru şekilde işleyebilmesi için örgüt kurma hakkının vazgeçilmez olması gerekmektedir ve demokrasinin aksayan yanlarını düzeltecek olan mekanizma sivil toplumdur.
