THE EFFECTS OF COGNITIVE DEVOLOPMENT EDUCATION PROGRAM ON THE ATTENTION, PERCEPTION AND MEMORY DEVELOPMENT OF 5-6 YEARS OLD CHILDREN

BİLİŞSEL GELİŞİM EĞİTİM PROGRAMININ 5-6 YAŞ ÇOCUKLARININ DİKKAT ALGI ve BELLEK GELİŞİMLERİNE ETKİSİ

Abstract

The purpose of this work is to study the effects of a cognitive development program that is composed of 12 sessions and 45 activities on the development of attention, perception and memory of 5-6 years old children. The study group for this work is composed of 24 children attending a pre-school program in Ankara, Turkey. The experimental study designed using pre-test, post-test has test and control groups. 12 of the children are included to the test group and the remaining 12 children form the control group. The study data is collected by the researchers using general information forms as well as cognitive development assesment forms used to assess the use of attention, perception and memory. Cognitive development assessment form is composed of 19 items that are carefully selected to cover the sub-components of attention, perception and memory such as short-term and long-term memory. For the analysis of the results, Wilcoxen signed rank test is used for comparisons in the same group and Mann-Whitney U test is used for comparisons among groups. The results show that cognitive development education program improved the attention, perception and memory development of the 12 children in the test group compared to the control group

Özet

Bu araştırmada dikkat, algı ve bellek becerilerinin kullanılmasını içeren toplamda 12 oturum ve 45 etkinlikten oluşan bilişsel gelişim eğitim programının 5-6 yaş çocuklarının dikkat, algı ve bellek gelişimlerine etkisinin incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda araştırmanın örneklemine Ankara'da bir okul öncesi eğitim kurumuna devam eden 24 çocuk dahil edilmiştir. Ön test-son test kontrol gruplu deneysel desen kullanarak tasarlanan araştırmada çocukların 12'si deney grubuna alınırken 12'si kontrol grubuna alınmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen genel bilgi formunun yanı sıra dikkat, algı, bellek becerilerinin kullanımını içeren bilişsel gelişim değerlendirme formu kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Bilişsel gelişim değerlendirme formunda toplamda 19 madde bulunmakta olup, bu maddelerin yazımı esnasında dikkat, algı ve bellek becerilerinin alt bileşenlerini (uzun süreli bellek, kısa süreli bellek gibi) içermesine dikkat edilmiştir. Formdaki maddeleri çocukların yapıp yapamadığını değerlendirirken araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen materyaller kullanılmıştır. Veriler analiz edilirken grup içi karşılaştırmalarda Wilcoxen işaret testi kullanılırken, gruplar arası karşılaştırmalarda Mann-Whitney U testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda 5-6 yaş arasındaki 12 çocuğa verilen bilişsel gelişim eğitim programının çocukların dikkat, algı ve bellek gelişimleri üzerinde pozitif yönde anlamlı bir etkisinin bulunduğu saptanmıştır
