Antepli Ayni’s Poems in the Context of Reflection of Turkish Socio-Cultural Life

Türk Sosyo-Kültürel Hayatına Fesin Yansıması Bağlamında Antepli Aynî’nin Divanında Fes

Abstract

The fez, known as a symbol of the Ottoman’s nowadays, has an ancienthistory. Turks met the fez in the 16th century by way of the Algerian sailors. It’s official acceptancecome across the period of the Mahmud II, with the disbandment of the corps of janissaries. Thefez was brought to the Ottoman life by seraskier Hüsrev Pasha. After that, with Mahmud II’srequest it became the periods’ official headwear. But nevertheless, the acceptance of the fez bythe society was not that easy. There with the fez was not only the topic of the politicians, but alsobecame the topic of the artists. The poets wrote poems to make the fez propaganda. Aynî fromAntep, was one of the poets of this period, honored with compliments by the sultan, because ofhis supportive praises and chronograms about the fez reform. This work contains the elementsrelated to the fez in Aynî’s divan and deals with the poet’s approach to the fez problem in detail.Also this study reflects the poet’s perspective on the fez reform that had an impact on Ottomansocial life of this time and how he transferred this subject to the literature

Özet

Günümüzde Osmanlı Devleti’nin sembollerinden olan fesin çok eski bir tarihi vardır.Türklerin fesle tanışması, 16.yüzyılda Cezayirli denizciler vasıtasıyla olmuştur. Fesin, resmibaşlık olarak kabulü, II. Mahmud döneminde, Yeniçeri Ocağı’nın kaldırılması sonrasınarastlar. Fes, Serasker Hüsrev Paşa vesilesiyle Osmanlı’ya getirilmiştir. Sonra da II. Mahmud’unisteğiyle resmi başlık olarak kabul edilmiştir. Fesin halk tarafından kabul görmesi kolayolmamıştır. Fes konusu sadece siyasetçilerin değil sanat camiasının da gündemine girmiştir.Şairler, fes propagandası yapan şiirler yazmıştır. Dönemin şairlerinden Antepli Aynî de yazdığımethiyelerle, düşürdüğü tarihlerle fes reformuna destek vermiş, bu sebeple padişahın iltifatınamazhar olmuştur. Çalışmamızda; fesin Türk sosyo-kültürel hayatına girişi sonrasında 18.yüzyıl şairlerinden Aynî’nin divanındaki fesle ilgili unsurlar tespit edilmiş, şairin fes meselesineyaklaşımı ayrıntılı bir şekilde ele alınmıştır. Ayrıca Osmanlı sosyal hayatını derinden etkileyen fesreformunun o dönemde yaşayan bir şairin nazarından edebiyata nasıl yansıdığı incelenmiştir.
