Abstract

Due to the characteristics of science education, it has great importance that activities, which can be done in classroom, should be supported with outdoor activities. In this study, The Out of Class Science Activities (TOCSA) Curriculum was implemented to Faculty of Education’s pre-service teachers and it was tried to find out the effects of outdoor education activities on them. ‘Action research method’ was adopted as a research method and qualitative data were obtained via “method triangulation” technics. The Main purpose of the study was to find out the effects of out of class activities in different places (botanical park, science center and zoo) on pre-service teachers. Over the course, observations, interviews were done and some documents were taken from the students to answer this question. Inductive analysis was used for gathering qualitative data, for content analysis and descriptive analysis with the help of NVivo 9 Program. Four themes was revealed as “pre-visit”, “during visit”, “post-visit” and “contribution to science and technology teaching”. According to findings obtained from qualitative data of the study, at the end of TOCSA course, pre-service teachers launched a professional and serious aspect to out of class science education activities.
