HOW TO INTERPRET HEGEL’S NOTION OF FREEDOM TODAY

Abstract

Abstract: What can Hegel’s notion of freedom say to us today? We see that Hegel’s notion of freedom is not solely arbitrariness or freedom to choose but it is a process of raising consciousness. The master-slave dialectic shows us that freedom only begins with getting to know the other and with the recognition of one another. In his critic of the French Revolution we can see that Hegel is against an abstract and individualistic freedom. Hegel’s notion of freedom is based on the consciousness of the inherent social obligations and abstract freedom could only be concretized this way. We see the interdependency of individuals in the civil society. This conception of freedom, also described as social freedom, is only possible within an organisation. The impact of an organization instead of an atomistic notion of an individual is even clearer these very days that we live in. The precautions taken in the days of pandemic prove us how the rights and duties of an individual cannot be separated. But we also should not don’t forget that the relation between freedom and security is very fragile and a principle of proportionality has to be observed.critic of the French Revolution we can see that Hegel is against an abstract and individualistic freedom. Hegel’in özgürlük anlayışı bugün için bize nasıl bir katkı sunabilir? Hegel’de özgürlüğün keyfilik ya da seçme özgürlüğü olmadığını, bir bilinçlenme süreci olduğunu söyleyebiliriz. Köle efendi diyalektiği üzerinden özgürleşmenin Hegel’de ancak bir başkasıyla karşılaşmayla başladığını görmekteyiz. Fransız Devrimi eleştirileri çerçevesinde ise bireysel ve soyut bir özgürlüğün eleştirisini bulabilmekteyiz. Hegel’in özgürlük anlayışının toplumsal zorunlulukların farkındalığı ile gerçekleşmekte ve soyut özgürlük bu şekilde somutlaşmaktadır. Toplum içinde birey, diğerleri ile bir bağımlılık ilişkisi içerisindedir. Hegel’de sosyal özgürlük olarak da tanımlanan bu özgürlük anlayışı toplumsal örgütlenme ile mümkündür. Atomize birey anlayışı yerine bir organizasyonun önemi bugün içinden geçtiğimiz dönemde çok daha fazla önem kazanmaktadır. Bireylerin hak ve ödevlerinin ne kadar iç içe geçtiği günümüzde yaşadığımız pandemi ortamında alınan önlemlerle daha fazla gözler önüne serilmektedir. Ancak özgürlük ve güvenlik arasındaki dengenin çok hassas olduğu ve orantılılık ilkesinin mutlaka gözetilmesi gerektiği de unutulmamalıdır.
