Abstract
George Brassens rightfully deemed as one of the most important names of the French chansons is also a highly memorable poet. In continuing the traditions of the poets of antiquity and the Middle Ages he has added true lyricism to poetry. Playing his guitar and singing in his impressive voice. This poet-singer, this rebellious spirit, jeering all regular and stilted oppressive thoughts, making listeners/readers smile with his derisive language, chose to express himself and display his attitude frankly. In Brassens works rebellion and fury is reflected through a form of crude humor (la farce). As can also be noted in the works of Boris Vian (Mezarlar›n›za Tükürece¤im) and the poetry of Ece Ayhan, all those who have been herded out of the limits of polite society, unhappy people, bums, drunkards, harlots, are his main inspirations. He finds a kind of ‘sanctity’ in these figures. In a way this is the sanctity of upheaval, of revolting against a set system. Every day language and slang are among the primary features of Brassens poetry. These crude and very explicit examples are the most economical forms of expression presented by the public. To say nothing of the wonderful rhyme concocted. Chanson, no longer a fantasy of the poet, is our inner voice; because, Brassens works witnessed by the masses are unprecedented forces in the renewal of ideals.
