Abstract

In structuring his novel, My Name is Red , Orhan Pamuk uses a refined technique and narrativised description that bring to mind a technique that goldsmiths, engravers and miniaturists used in the 16th century. His novel could be considered a novel on painting and miniatures because the author perfectly and skillfully combines description and narration to present the reader a rich repertoire of works of art that were miniatures in the 16th century. Prof. Inal and Ass. Prof. Kaya also studied other facets of this novel (sociological, historical, detectiv…etc.) that provide possibilities for multilevel reading. Moreover, the rich narrativised descriptions, place Orhan Pamuk among the rare, “exotic-ekphrastic” Turkish writers.
