Abstract

Ziya Osman Saba is one of those Turkish poets who use the concept of time and especially the past in a very lyrical manner in his works. In his poems about the changes in the social and cultu- ral structure of Istanbul in the 1910-1930 periods, he recites how traditional values and a way of living are affected adversely. He reaches for the past as if it was a paradise lost to these people. His nostalgic quest for the past is that for happiness. He then moves on to the value and the blessing of the present and of breathing-in every moment, and to good days to come, displaying a very positive life philosophy
