Abstract

The study concentrates on Marguerite Duras’s work published when she was in her seventies entitiled“L’Amant” which won her the 1984 Goncourt Literary Award. The work in question hasbeen read by many around the world. It is a masterpiece in the author’s career and also in terms ofcontemporary French Literature. Since the novel carries many images and scenes from the author own life it is not completely a work of fiction. The author’s life is also portrayed. The work in question is not only a love story about a poor European girl crossing the Mekong River. The first image is that of a memory long past but to be retained through a life-time, a picture of a moment. The reason the novel differs from other of its genre lies in the fact that it refers to the journey of life down a river
