Abstract

Bernard-Marie Koltès’ theatrical works are written as a result of various travels to Africa, North America and other places. Koltès opens himself to other cultures. As he states in his interviews, Africa has a special influence on the way he views the world and these travels shape his writing. Even though his writing reveals a revolutionary character, in terms of form, he adheres to classical French traditions (such as classical tragedy or Diderot’s philosophical dialogues) which makes him a representative of the spirit and form of classical French drama. This work considers these two aspects of his masterpieces
