Abstract

In terms of structure poetry is different from prose as a literary genre. It has rich, deep and sophis- ticated wording. This characteristic sometimes prevents one from understanding the poem easily. Hilmi Yavuz’s poems display such features and they have such a structure that the reader cannot fully comprehend in a first reading. There are some reasons for this: According to us the most important reason is the relation between his poems and the modernist French poetry. The moder- nization movement of Turkish poetry also has effects on this complex structure. There is another reason of complex structure of H. Yavuz’s poems yet and that is because he is searching for a new perspective in his poetry in parallel with modernization. In this regard, we hope his poems will be understood more clearly by explaining rhetoric, puns and poetic figures
