Abstract
There are cities which have served as a muse for Brel when composing his poetry. Sometimes it is the personal memories ignited by the cities, sometimes it is the wish to escape but all these find a voice in Brel’s work as a singer, song writer and lyricist. This study hopes to shed light on the meanings endowed by the cities on the poems. The author focuses his attention on not only famous cities like Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris Warsaa and Hamburg but also cities inspiring the poet like Vesoul and Vierzon
