Abstract
The interpretive theory of translation has an important role in the translation studies in the history of this field. The theory was developed by Marianne Lédérer and Danica Seleskovitch. The theory has three stages: comprehension of text, deverbalisation of text and expression (reverbalisation) of text. It is target/sense-oriented and; the most important aspect of this theory is to give the same sense, message and effect of the source text in the target text. Consequently, the role of culture and context is important as well. Although the base of the interpretive theory of translation has roots in the conference interpreting, it is possible to utilize this theory in the analysis of written and literary texts. In this study, we analyze the Turkish and French translations of the New Moon by Stephenie Meyer in English the interpretive theory of translation. In addition, we conclude that the French translation by Luc Rigoureau is more target-oriented and interpretive than the Turkish translation by Öncü Saraç Tüzüner in terms of sense and equivalence
