Abstract

Hasim's poem named Stairs refers to feelings and concepts centering around "death". As a matterof fact, all of the studies conducted about this poem are based on this perspective. This is a naturalresult of thematic approach which has its' bases in biography and the work itself. But we wouldlike to evaluate this poem from a different perspective. Our aim is to discuss this poem in termsof symbols and symbolic thought which we think it intensely embodies. In this regard, our paperwill naturally evolve and be molded through concepts like image, the unconscious and archetypeand when needed, we will resort to the use of the methods to analyze these concepts. In this paper,with the help of symbolic, psychoanalytic and archetypal methods, our aim is to seek answers toquestions like what kinds of values are embodied in the symbols of the poem Stairs' , to which archetypesthey are connected, what kind of actions to they tend to portray and why psyche is neededto use these symbols.
