Abstract
"ECCE HOMO MARIA" OR FERİT EDGÜ'S 'LESS IS MORE' Ferit Edgü's İşte Deniz, Maria a book of short stories published in 2000, and the first story entitled "Ecco, il mare Maria are like a reference to Pontius Pilatus's words referring to the time he delivered Christ to his tormenters: "Ecce homo ". "Ecce homo", a popular phrase used in the plastic arts as well as literary and philosophical texts is not only a reference to the Christ image but also symbolises humans within their human limits and bounderies. Edgü, tells the tale of two old women who look so much alike they could be twins as they meet at the sea side and talk of profound matters. The women disappear as mysteriously as they appeared. Their existence and use of the phrase "Ecco il mare, Maria" creates a sense of "déjà vu" and an archetypical imagery in the readers eyes
