Abstract
Considering the relationship between modern Turkish poetry and French poetry as a fact emanating from of a vast framework of a plan of civilization, Mr. Yavuz emphasizes, at the beginning, that it would be unjust to qualify it as simple imitation and that such a step would forcefully restrict the context when it would be desirable that this (relationship) be treated in the light of certain critical approaches based on modern literary theory such as intertextuality and paratextuality. Mr. Yavuz cites, in this regard, the cases of Yahya Kemal, Ahmet Haşim, Necip Fazıl, Nazım Hikmet, Behçet Necatigil and Asaf Halet Çelebi, whom he considers to be ‘authentic’ poets, that, in his opinion, appropriate foreign heritage just like a national tradition and make it theirs in a way that most suit them. This synthesis, admirably successful between the East and the West, the traditional and the modern, also serves as a model for Yavuz who places himself in this line of poets whom he proclaims as his descendants
