Abstract
It was firstly by means of translations into Turkish that French poetry influenced me. I willcite in the first place and without hesitation Rimbaud’s Le Bateau ivre Recueillement. I most certainly have to attribute this influence to the wonderful translations of Sabahattin Eyüboğlu. As for me, I began to learn French in the 1970’s and since then Les Fleurs du Mal has been among the books at my bedside. Nevertheless, it seems that my poetry still has vestiges of Blaise Cendrars’ Transsibérien and Apollinaire, in general. It is also undeniable that my collection of poems entitled Bir Gün Mutaka (One Day Certainly) carries in its background the influence of Saman Sarısı (Yelloness of Hay) by Nazim Hikmet, of Kaptan (The Sailor) by Atila İlhan or even of Üvercinka by Cemal Süreya but equally of Transsibérien by Cendrars. The effect of mouvement and temps that are in these poems and notably the reinforcement of present time in certain poems of Apollinaire coincide perfectly with my perception of time. It is so clear that , except for a few poems, this concept of ‘temps fluide’ has never been well understood in our poetry; this time that is non-conceptual but complex and changing, belongs certainly to surrealism
