Abstract
Hoffmann and Diderot occupy a very special place among Baudelaire’s sources because of their direct influence on the formation of the essential categories of poetics in Les Fleurs du Mal. In La Princesse Brambilla, Baudelaire discovered the principle of “double: and in La Religieuse the principle of “mal”. The former principle supports poetic form while the latter transforms itself into a concept and a view of the world that harbors the notion of “modernité”
