Abstract
One of the most important experts to lead to the questioning and downfall of the traditional dramatic structure at the end of the XIX. century was Maurice Maeterlinck. Maeterlinck is known as a poet and playwright and also invented the concept of Static Drama leading to his being hailed a theorist as well. His works and theories had large effects on modern theatre. His modern approach to tragedy is a very fundamental step and a turning point in the history of western theatre. Maetrlinck’s static drama theory, his unique view of tragedy defined under «tragique quotidien» has been a great contribution to the renovation of tragedy. Thus the theory of static theatre by Maeterlinck present in his initial plays not only helps us understand the new theory but is also a very important starting point in understanding the problematic of the renovation of classic tragedy.
