Abstract

Annie Ernaux, BORN İN Normandy France to a working class family, in her work published in 1984 that won her the Renaudot prize entitled “la Place”, talks of a real journey in referring to the social class of her family through her references and dreams. Ernaux deals with , the socail class she belonged to as a family, the style of life, the working conditions, the human realtions, values and ethics within the scope of a feeling of belonging and identity. This “autosociobiografique” approach concentrating on the father figure, enables a social analysis and also deals with a fatherdaughter relationship. The father figures wish to gain a place within the limited confines of his society allows Ernaux to consider the different natures of social belonging. This is not a portrayal of a clash of generations but a lesson for life.
