Abstract

This text presents analysis of meaning and understanding in the context of studies on machine/ automatic translation. How does one define and describe understanding? Indeed, research on machine translation demonstrate the problem in the theoretical approach to the concepts of “meaning” and “sense”, “understanding” and “interpretation”, which is a serious impediment in transferring linguistic data into mathematical language algorithms.
