Abstract

In this paper we aim to study the educational conditions, that seems to be a fundamental research subject since antiquity, during Middle Ages in France. The educational institutions of that particular period which aimed to educate the Clergy, had improved mostly on during the reigne of Charlemagne. Moreover, it is even possible to find on the roots of this religious education the traces of antiquity. In this regard, although Middle Ages are considered generally as the “dark ages”, this period of time has a great importance when it comes to the development of educational institutions in France. In this context, in the present study we will first briefly refer to the major educational theories developed during the antiquity, then will try to examine the historical development of the educational institutions during Middle Ages in France.
