ORIGINS OF ROOT VALUES: A DİVANÜ LÛGAT-IT TÜRK REVIEW

Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to reveal the expressions in Dîvânu Lugâti’t-Türk (DLT) about root values and to create a perspective for values education in this way. DLT is one of the canon works of Turkish literature. It is an important resource containing extensive knowledge about the history of Turkish education and the history of the Turkish language. Root values (justice, patience, respect, love, responsibility, friendship, honesty, self-control,helpfulness and patriotism) are the facts that are emphasized insistently in the curriculum and great importance is given to gaining the students. In this respect, whether or not the root values are included in the DLT, which is a historical indicator of Turkish culture, is an issue that needs to be examined. Researches to be carried out in this direction will be guiding in illuminating the history of Turkish culture and education and using canon works in education. This study is qualitative and carried out based on document analysis. The data were analyzed by content analysis technique. To provide data for this study, a DLT translation was analyzed in terms of root values and the findings were edited after expert opinion. The findings about the root values obtained by examining the work were presented to the opinion of three field experts and then finalized. Under the heading of findings and comments, which value is included in what way is shown and interpreted in detail. In the table, the expression related to the root value and the type of this expression are specified. In the table, both the original versions of the expressions and their translations are included. Since the translation used while collecting data is a combined version of the three-volume old edition of the work, volume and page numbers are also included in the table. Looking at the findings, it was seen that there were fifty-two statements about root values in the DLT. The most frequently mentioned root value is love; The least mentioned root values are justice and responsibility. The high value of love can be attributed to the multifaceted feeling of love. well as in different numbers, it is seen that all root values are included in the DLT. As a result, it can be said that the root values included in the curriculum prepared in 2018 and still in force have already lived in Turkish culture for centuries and that DLT can be used in the education of these root values. According to these results, it is recommended that similar studies be carried out with other canon works.

Özet

Bu çalışmada kök değerlerle ilgili Dîvânu Lugâti’t-Türk (DLT)’te bulunan ifadeleri ortaya koymak ve bu yolla değerler eğitimi için bir bakış açısı oluşturmak amaçlanmıştır. DLT, Türk edebiyatının kanon eserlerindendir. Türk eğitim tarihi ve Türk dili tarihi hakkında geniş bilgiler içeren önemli bir kaynaktır. Kök değerler (adalet, sabır, saygı sevgi, sorumluluk, dostluk, dürüstlük, öz denetim, yardımseverlik ve vatanseverlik) ise ders programlarında ısrarla vurgulanan ve öğrenciye kazandırılmasına büyük önem verilen olgulardır. Bu bakımdan kök değerlerin Türk kültürünün tarihî bir göstergesi olan DLT’de yer alıp almama durumu incelenmesi gereken bir konudur. Bu doğrultuda yapılacak araştırmalar Türk kültür ve eğitim tarihinin aydınlatılmasında ve kanon eserlerin eğitim öğretimde kullanılmasında yol gösterici olacaktır. Bu çalışma, nitel olup doküman incelemesine dayalı olarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veriler içerik analizi tekniğiyle analiz edilmiştir. Bu çalışmaya veri sağlamak için bir DLT tercümesi kök değerler açısından incelenmiş ve elde edilen bulgular uzman görüşü alındıktan sonra düzenlenmiştir. Eserin incelenmesiyle elde edilen kök değerlerle ilgili bulgular üç alan uzmanın görüşüne sunulmuş ve ardından kesinleştirilmiştir. Bulgular ve yorumlar başlığı altında hangi değerin ne şekilde yer aldığı ayrıntılı olarak gösterilmiş ve yorumlanmıştır. Tabloda kök değerle ilgili ifade ve bu ifadenin türü belirtilmiştir. Tabloda ifadelerin hem orijinal hâllerine hem de tercümelerine yer verilmiştir. Veri toplanırken kullanılan tercüme eser üç ciltlik eski basımının birleştirilmiş hâli olduğu için tabloda cilt ve sayfa numaralarına da yer verilmiştir. Bulgulara bakıldığında DLT’de kök değerlerle ilgili elli iki ifade bulunduğu görülmüştür. En sık yer verilen kök değer, sevgi; en az yer verilen kök değerler ise adalet ve sorumluluktur. Sevgi değerinin fazla olması, sevgi duygusunun çok yönlü olmasına, bir sevgiliye, anne babaya, kardeşe yönelebilmesine bağlanabilir. Farklı sayılarda olmakla birlikte bütün kök değerlerin DLT’te yer aldığı görülmektedir. Sonuç olarak 2018 yılında hazırlanan ve hâlâ yürürlükte olan öğretim programlarında yer verilen kök değerlerin zaten asırlardır Türkçe yazılı eserlerde yaşadığı ve bu kök değerlerin eğitiminde DLT’den faydalanılabileceği söylenebilir. Buradan hareketle benzer araştırmaların diğer kanon eserlerle de gerçekleştirilmesi önerilmektedir.
