Abstract
This article aims to reveal the solution offers put forward by Spinoza and Nietzsche about the problem of death. According to Spinoza and Nietzsche, death means the end of human’s life, and no other life awaits human as a reward or punishment after death. Therefore, it is unnecessary for a person to fear death. The most important condition for the freedom of human is to get rid of the fear of death that has captured its mind. According to Spinoza, the way to get rid of this fear is through living under the guidance of the mind, while according to Nietzsche, it is through art. Another problem that needs to be addressed about death is suicide. While Spinoza claimed that suicide was contrary to the human essence, conatus, Nietzsche claimed that it was a virtue for human to commit suicide when necessary for the will to power.
Spinoza, intiharın insanın özü olan conatus’a aykırı olduğunu ilerisürerken Nietzsche insanın güç istenci uğruna gerektiğinde intihar etmesinin birerdem olduğunu iddia etmiştir.
