Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of classical massage and mobilization on general pain intensity number of tender points of neck-upper back region and functional status in patients with primer fibromyalgia syndrome (FS). Material and Methods: Fourteen patients with primer FS were treated for twelve sessions. Patients were randomly allocated randomly into classical massage (CMG) and mobilization techniques groups (MTG). Seven patients (age: 27.57±2.7 years) were treated mobilization combined with superficial heating and exercise in MTG, while 7 patients (age: 30.43±1.8 years) were treated classical massage combined with superficial heating and exercise in KMG. Patients in both groups were assessed by Visual Analog Scale (VAS), number of trigger points and Neck Pain and Disability Visual Analog Scale (NPAD) before and after treatment. Results: A significant decrease was found in VAS, number of trigger points and NPAD scores in both groups (p0.05). Conclusion: It is concluded that classical massage and mobilization have positive effects on patients with primer FS and both treatment techniques have similar effectiveness.
