Abstract
Poliomyelitis is a human disease that affects anterior horn cells of the spinal cord. In our country this disease has usually been observed before adulthood. As a result of asymmetric paralysis it causes growth retardation in the affected pans of the body throughout the developmental period and thus may influence the functional motor level. The purpose of our study was to investigate the role of growth and development and especially the role of puberty in the arising of the motor sequelae of poliomyelitis. 95 postpoliomyelitis patients ivho were rehabilitated in the Ankara Rehabilitation Center were assessed retrospectively. 42% of the patients were female and58% were male. 58.9% of them were evaluated before puberty and 41.1% during and after puberty. The following sequelae concerning the motor system were observed: atrophy in 97.9%, joint laxity in 93-4%, lower extremity shortening in 69.2%, contracture in 51.6%, paralytic scoliosis in 36.8% of the patients. The prevalence of leg shortening (p
Hastaların %42'si kadın, %58'i erkekti.%58.9'u puberte öncesinde,%41.´i puberte sırası ve sonrasında değerlendirilmeye alındı.Motor sistemle ilgili sekeller hastaların %97.9'un atrofi,%93'4ünde eklem laksitesi,%69.2'sinde alt ekstremite kısalığı,%51.6'sında kontraktür ve%36.8'inde paralitik skolyoz şeklinde idi. Puberte sırası ve sonrasında değerlendirilen hastalarda bacak kısalığı (p
