The Turkish Aviation at the Great Attack

Abstract

That a motorized airplane has completed its short-time flying successfully in 1903 had become a turning-point in the history of aviation as a turning point from the perspective of war and weapon-technologies. The plane has been regarded as a war-tool and the Ottomans had recognized the plane as a war-tool when it is used against them at the Trablusgarb in 1911. This development had led the Ottomans to work in this area but they haven't achieved a noteworthy advancement until the independent-war years. During the independent war, it had been strived to form an air-force, but the airplanes having purchased from the various sources have failed. But, in spite of this, the modest Turkish air-force that is established after these efforts had given the very important aids at the Great Attack. The events that had been lived in this difficulties eras had been formed a definite substructure to understand the importance of aviation in the Turkey of Republic and in the feasibilities in this way.

Özet

1903 yılında motorlu bir uçağın kısa süreli uçuşunu başarıyla tamamlaması, havacılık tarihinde bir dönüm noktası olduğu gibi, savaş ve silah teknolojisi açısından da yeni bir çığır açmıştı. Uçak bir savaş aracı olmuş, Osmanlı bu yönüyle uçağı 1911'deki Trablusgarb savaşında kendisine karşı kullanıldığında tanımıştı. Bu gelişme Osmanlı Devleti'ni de bu yönde çalışmalara yöneltmiş, ancak Kurtuluş savaşı yıllarına kadar kayda değer bir gelişme sağlayamamıştı. Kurtuluş Savaşı sırasında Türk ordusu içinde bir hava gücü oluşturulmaya çalışılmış, çeşitli kaynaklardan sağlanan uçaklar verimli olmamıştı. Yine de bütün bu çabalar sonucu oluşturulan mütevazı Türk hava gücü Büyük Taarruz'da orduya önemli katkılarda bulunmuştu. Bu sıkıntılı dönemde yaşananlar Cumhuriyet Türkiyesi'nde havacılığın öneminin anlaşılması ve bu yolda yapılması gerekenler konusunda belli bir alt yapı oluşturmuştu.
