An assessment of students' views on the use of project-based learning method in web design course

Web tasarımı dersinde proje tabanlı öğrenme yönteminin kullanılmasına ilişkin öğrenci görüşlerinin değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the views of the students on the use of project-based learning method at Web Design course. The sample group of the study was 4th grade students registered to Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology at Faculty of Education, Department of Computer Education at Faculty of Technical Education and 2nd grade students registered to Program of Computer Programming at Technical Sciences Vocational School in spring term of 2010-2011 academic year. In this research a 26-item five-point Likert-type scale, was developed and used. Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient, Spearman-Brown correlation coefficient and Guttman split-half coefficient of the scale was measured to be .949, .895 and .895. Scale was applied a total of 162 students-including 67 girls and 95 boys. To analyze the data, independent groups t test and one way Anova test were used. With the study, it was determined that students' views towards use of project-based learning method at Web Design course were positive. But statistically significant differences were determined in interest, responsibility, permanence, participation and sufficiency in web sub-scales in terms of faculty/college variables. It was also determined that there were statistically significant differences in responsibility and permanence sub-scales in terms of girl students.

Bu araştırmanın amacı Web Tasarımı dersinde proje tabanlı öğrenme yönteminin kullanılmasına ilişkin öğrenci görüşlerini belirlemektir. Araştırmanın evrenini 2010-2011 öğretim yılı Bahar yarıyılında Fırat Üniversitesi'nde Web Tasarımı Dersini alan Eğitim Fakültesi Bilgisayar ve Öğretim Teknolojileri Bölümü 4. sınıf öğrencileri, Teknik Eğitim Fakültesi Bilgisayar Öğretmenliği Bölümü 4. sınıf öğrencileri ve Teknik Bilimler Meslek Yüksek Okulu Bilgisayar Programcılığı 2. sınıf öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada 26 maddeden oluşan beşli Likert tipi bir ölçek geliştirilmiş ve kullanılmıştır. Ölçeğin Cronbach Alpha güvenirlik katsayısı .949, Spearman-Brown korelasyon katsayısı .895, Guttman split-half katsayısı ise .895 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Hazırlanan ölçek 67 kız ve 95 erkek olmak üzere toplam 162 öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Verilerin çözümlenmesinde bağımsız gruplar t testi ve tek yönlü varyans analizi testinden faydalanılmıştır. Araştırma ile öğrencilerin Web Tasarımı dersinde proje tabanlı öğrenme yönteminin kullanılmasına ilişkin görüşlerinin olumlu olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ancak derse karşı ilgi, sorumluluk, kalıcılık, katılım ve webde yeterlik alt boyutlarında fakülte/yüksekokul değişkenine göre grupların görüşleri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklılaşmanın bulunduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca, sorumluluk ve kalıcılık alt boyutlarında kız öğrenciler lehine anlamlı farklılaşma belirlenmiştir.
