Abstract

In this study, historical journey of silk production and trade in Lebanon, under Ottoman rule, its importance for the region and the policy is applied by Ottoman for Lebanon's silk are analyzed in this study.Today, the boundaries of the Republic of Lebanon from north to South contains the cities of Tripoli,Beirut, Sidon,Tyre and Jabal-i Lebanon. Lebanon, had joined the Ottoman rule as a result of the Egyptian expedition of Sultan Selim, had remained under Ottoman administration until 1918. In the history of Lebanon, silk manufacturing and trade has been the most important economic resource after the trade. Silk, in addition to being an economic product under Ottoman rule, it has also came into prominence as source of competitive factor, political power, enforcement tool and the target brand. Silk which has been the power element of the local network and lords in the 16th and 17th centuries, at the end of the 18th century it was used as coercion tool, and it has come to the forefront of competitiveness as a destination in the first half of the 19th century during the conflict of Maronite and Druze. Lebanon's silk, has been a source of regional development as a global trademark since the second half of the 19th century. Silk, with these characteristics has an important place in the history of Lebanon.

Özet

Bu çalışmada, Osmanlı idaresindeki Lübnan'da ipek üretim ve ticaretinin tarihi seyri, bölge için önemi ve Osmanlı Devleti'nin Lübnan ipeği için uyguladığı politika ele alınmıştır. Günümüzde Lübnan Cumhuriyeti'nin sınırları kuzeyden güneye doğru, Trablusşam, Beyrut, Sayda ve Sur şehirleri ile Cebel-i Lübnan'ı içine almaktadır. Yavuz Sultan Selim'in meşhur Mısır seferi ile Osmanlı hâkimiyetine girmiş olan Lübnan toprakları, 1918 yılına kadar Osmanlı idaresinde kalmıştır. Lübnan tarihinde ticaretten sonra en önemli iktisadi kaynak ipek üretim ve ticareti olmuştur. Osmanlı hâkimiyetinde ipek iktisadî bir ürün olmasının yanı sıra rekabet unsuru, güç kaynağı, yaptırım aracı, hedef ve marka olarak da ön plana çıkmıştır. 16. ve 17. yüzyıllarda yerel ağa ve beylerin güç unsuru olan ipek, 18. yüzyılın sonunda yaptırım aracı olarak kullanılmış, 19. yüzyılın ilk yarısında Marunî ve Dürzi çatışmalarında birer hedef ve rekabet unsuru olarak ön plana çıkmıştır. Lübnan ipeği, 19. yüzyılın ikinci yarısından itibaren küresel bir marka olarak bölgesel kalkınmanın kaynağı olmuştur. Bu özellikleri ile ipek Lübnan tarihinde önemli bir yere sahiptir.
