Abstract
Love is a phenomenon that cannot be defined but that can be lived. Even if it cannot be defined, a lot of things can gain meaning with it. It is possible to see love in each stage of its emergence. For instance, for Empedokles it is love that gathers together dispersed elements in the beginning of the universe. For Plato the first thought of God is love and what makes people live is this love that they get from God.According to such Turkish philosophers as Farabi, Ibni Sina and Yunus Emre love originates from God. Because God means love. He added love to every creature that he created. Every creature is the result of the love of God and this concept is the best among the created.Human beings become happy if they are aware of love. Love is of many types. Love of child, parents, nation, and so on. There is also love for the opposite sex. Love is the principle that unites the opposites. It is the principle that provides unity and conformity in the society.Another dimension of love is the philosophical love that is also called Platonic love. This type of love starts with the intimacy for the opposite sex, goes on to include the whole humanity and gains a direction towards absolute beauty. Therefore, love has both ontological and ethical and aesthetic dimensions. And love gives life to the entire universe.
