Muhammad al-Kafawî and His Risâla fi al-Âdâb

Abstract

Muhammad al-Kafawî and his “Risâla fi al-Âdâb” had constituted a special tradition in the field of “âdâb al-bahth wa’l-munâzara”, which had been systematized by Shams al-Din al-Samarkandî. Kafawî’s work represented one of the most important contributions to argumentation theory in Ottoman intellectual circles. This article aims to introduce the Ottoman theorist al-Kafawî and his “Risâle fi’l- Âdâb” in order to contribute the literature of “âdâb” in Turkish scholarship.

Şemsüddin Semerkandi’nin sistemleştirdiği Âdâbü’l-Bahs ve’l-münâzara kendine özgü bir gelenek oluşturmuş, yeni katkılar sunan örneklerini de Osmanlı ilim havzasında vermiştir. Bu makale, Osmanlı bilginlerinden es-Seyyid Muhammad b. el-Hâc Hamîd el-Kefevî ve Risâle fi’l-Âdâbı’nı tanıtarak âdâb geleneği hakkında Türkçe literatüre bir giriş yapmayı amaçlamaktadır.
